Public vs Private Enterprise

I just read the best explanation of the whole privatisation issue (currently a hot topic, what with the Australian government trying to sell off the rest of the currently Government-owned telco):
Private enterprise is more efficient than the public service, by definition. [...] Of course, private enterprise [...] works by ignoring unprofitable tasks, while the public service exists to serve everyone.
