Well, that was surreal

I just got a call from a "Katherine" at Mantech IT (or Mantec -- they can't seem to get their domain name synced up with their business name), claiming that they've previously supplied Java developers on contract to "your organisation", and having another one to palm off onto us.

Now, anyone who has the slightest bit of knowledge of the company I work for would know that's a laughable proposition. We Don't Do Java. We also don't do enough software development that hiring programmers of unknown capability from a dodgy agency is an effective proposition for us.

With my "WTF?" antennae twitching, I asked what company she thought I worked for. She mumbled something that could have been plausible, but I didn't really catch it. I said "pardon?", and she said "oh sorry" and hung up.

Suffice it to say, I don't think that Mantech is a company you want to be dealing with (either as a candidate or a company) if this interaction is anything to go by.

Sigh. Yet another "all recruiters are scum" data point. I'm getting quite a file by now.
